Last weekend (1-3.04), the "Sport Bay" Sports and Didactic Centre of Łódź hosted the Polish Academic Swimming Championships, which attracted over 900 competitors from 83 universities in Poland. During the two days of competition, several hundred medals were handed out. The representatives of the Łódź University of Technology gave us a lot of joy, winning as many as 18 medals, including 6 in the Open category.
In autumn, the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School, TUL will start offering doctoral studies to additional students selected through a joint admission process between the university and the National Centre for Research and Development. This is the effect of the agreement signed by the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik and the President of IDEAS NCBR, Prof. Piotr Sankowski.
Our Olympian, Kajetan Duszyński, a doctoral student at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Lodz University of Technology, turned out to be the best in the 400 m indoor run, thus setting his new personal best record. On Sunday, 6 March, at the Polish Senior Indoor Athletics Championships in Toruń, he clocked 46.71 seconds.

The Interdisciplinary Doctoral School (IDS) at Lodz University of Technology has been operating for 2 years, educating students from all over the world in English. The IDS community consists of about 200 young researchers working on their doctoral dissertation theses in the standard, implementation and project formula. Prof. Agnieszka Ruppert talks about the activities of the IDS.
The programme aims to create conditions for the development of cooperation of entities of the higher education system and science with the socio-economic environment, carried out within doctoral schools and consisting in educating doctoral candidates in cooperation with entrepreneurs or other entities employing them. The effect will be the implementation of these results of research activities carried out by doctoral students in these entities.

Researchers from the Department of Environmental Biotechnology at TUL, together with the Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa, received 19 million PLN from the National Centre for Research and Development to develop an innovative process for drying pulp using waste heat and obtaining functional feed components, as part of the circular economy of sugar factories.

Robert Cichowicz, Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering at TUL, has been analysing the air quality with the use of a specialised drone in various locations within the Lodz agglomeration, including: the A and B campus of Lodz University of Technology and the areas which may be affected by the Lodz Combined Heat and Power Plants EC-3 and EC-4. Łukasz Adamek, M.Sc., a doctoral student at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering is taking part in an economic mission to Egypt (May 29-31) attended by the President of Poland. During the Poland-Egypt New Tech Forum in Cairo, Mr Adamek is presenting an innovative solution based on the use of thermal imaging to detect early symptoms of disease in animals.
In April, Lodz University of Technology will launch a new series of meetings "Zawód Naukowiec" (Scientist as the Profession”) aimed at the local community: young people over 13 years old and adults.
