Students of Lodz University of Technology design costumes for the staff of the Polish Pavilion at the World Expo 2020 Dubai and develop the concept of presenting the Lodz Voivodship in the temporary exhibition zone in the Polish Pavilion.

The final result of their work will be visible soon, as the competitions to select the best projects are entering a decisive phase.

- This is the university's exceptional contribution to the shaping of Poland's image and to the design works of the unique, largest economic event, which is EXPO - says Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, Rector of Lodz University of Technology and at the same time the Ambassador of Poland's participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.

Adrian Malinowski, Commissioner General of the Polish Section of the World Expo 2020 Dubai points out

- Our cooperation with Lodz University of Technology and its students reflects the motto of the upcoming World Exhibition - "By joining minds, we create the future". This is yet another sign that we are engaging young, talented students of Polish universities as part of the Expo 2020 Dubai programme, after all, students will also be involved in running the Polish Pavilion.

The competitions are organised jointly with the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and the Łódź Voivodeship.

As Grzegorz Schreiber, Marshal of the Lodz Voivodship, emphasises

– Competitions for the best design of the Lodz Voivodeship exhibition and original concept of costumes for the staff of the Polish Pavilion at the World Exhibition EXPO 2020 in Dubai create unlimited opportunities for showcasing the creativity and talent of Lodz University of Technology students, who are undoubtedly one of the greatest assets of the Lodz Voivodeship.

The costumes were prepared by students of clothing architecture as part of their didactic classes conducted by lecturers from the Institute of Architecture of Textiles at TUL. The best works of twenty one students were selected for evaluation by the Competition Committee.

- The works were evaluated not only on the basis of their attractive form, but also how they refer to the slogan of the Polish Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai - "Creativity inspired by nature" and how they combine modernity and tradition. We paid attention to the comfort and safety of use and the compatibility of the colours of the outfits with the visual identification adopted for the Polish stand. The 10 best designs have been selected, and their authors have time to complete their sketches and styling proposals with technical documentation. The competition should be resolved by the end of April - says dr inż. Magdalena Owczarek member of the Competition Committee.

From among the finalists, the Competition Committee, composed of the members of the Expo 2020 Dubai Team, representatives of Lodz University of Technology and Lodz Voivodship, will select the winner whose project will be implemented. The winner may also count on having his/her work and art promoted as part of the Expo 2020 Dubai communication programme, coordinated by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.

In the second competition carried out as part of the regions promotion programme, in which students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering participate, the best project in terms of architecture, visual and usability of the presentation of the Lodz Voivodeship in the temporary exhibition zone, which will be made available from 6 to 10 November 2021, will be selected.

According to dr inż. arch. Katarzyna Janicka-Świerguła from the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning - the exhibition will consist of two parts. One of them will be devoted to traditional fabrics, folk costumes from the Łódź region and the traditions from which the textile industry developed in the voivodeship. The other will show the contemporary achievements of companies and research centres in creating modern fabrics, including functional ones. This part of the exhibition should be organised with the use of modern forms of communication and interactive, but non-contact elements (e.g. virtual floor). Lodz University of Technology will be a partner of this part of the exhibition - the university's achievements in the development of modern textiles will also be presented.
The deadline for submitting works is 30 April 2021. Winners will be selected on the 6th of May 2021,
