On Thursday (17.06), an agreement on scientific and R&D cooperation was signed by the Rector of Lodz University of Technology - Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik and the CEO of DS Smith - Krzysztof Sadowski.

The agreement with such a renowned partner, implementing many innovative projects, is particularly important for the technical university, which develops and implements the latest technologies. I am convinced that the solutions worked out together will contribute to the creation of a modern Polish and pro-ecological economy. Internships and placements will allow us to acquire practical skills that are currently in great demand on the labour market, while joint scientific conferences and research work will strengthen our research potential - emphasised Rector, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik.

DS Smith is a leading provider of environmentally friendly corrugated packaging, in addition to its recycling activities and being a paper manufacturer. It plays a key role in the supply chain in sectors such as e-commerce, FMCG and industrial.

The DS Smith Polska Group is part of an international corporation that successfully operates in 34 countries and employs over 30,000 people. In Poland we employ over 1,300 people in four production plants and logistics centres. What is important for the Lodz Voivodship and Lodz University of Technology, one of our factories is located in Kutno and the other one, which is currently under construction, will be situated in nearby Belchatow. It will be one of the most modern cardboard and packaging plants in Europe, - said Krzysztof Sadowski.

According to the information provided by the CEO of DS Smith, the Belchatow plant will start production in spring 2022 and currently the company is recruiting around 200 workers, including engineers from TUL with various specialisations.
