Lodz University of Technology celebrated the 76th anniversary of its foundation. The special session (24.05) of TUL Senate took place in the historic Sołtan Auditorium for the last time. There was a limited number of invited guests in the auditorium.


In his speech, the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik, spoke about the ongoing and planned investments, national and international cooperation as well as the successes of employees and students. He emphasized the strategic goal of Lodz University of Technology - attaining world-class standards in science as well as intensifying scientific activity and applicability of research results:

We are implementing successive undertakings under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme, a programme offering great development opportunities for Polish universities - which have the potential to attain world-class standards in science. Therefore, we reward the highest quality of scientific activity. We focus on openness and innovation in scientific research as well as the development of cooperation in international networks and consortia and that is why we are seeking to re-join the European Consortium of Innovative Universities - ECIU.

Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik also informed about new accreditations for faculties and planned innovative activities in the field of student education. – Another development is the implementation of a new formula of the competence examination using the case teaching method, commenced this academic year, to verify the student's achievement of key competences defined for the study program. It is an innovative approach to confirm qualifications specified in the Polish Qualifications Framework. Lodz University of Technology is the first university in Poland to introduce such a formula - said the Rector.

During the ceremony, the profiles of people who had obtained academic titles in the last two years were presented: professor - as many as 27 people and associate professor - 47 people. The title of Senior Professor of Lodz University of Technology was awarded to an outstanding scientist, educator and organizer - Professor Włodzimierz Nakwaski. Scientists also received awards. The winners of five competitions for Rector's awards received a total of over 100,000 PLN.

Traditionally, awards and distinctions were presented to students and graduates for outstanding achievements and diploma dissertation theses. The award of TUL Alumni Association, the competition jury decided to award the title of the best graduate of Lodz University of Technology in the academic year 2018/2019 to Piotr Łuczak, MSc from the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, and in the academic year 2019/2020 to Karolina Beton, MSC from the Faculty of Chemistry.

The special session took place in the Sołtan Auditorium at 1/15 Stefanowskiego St. for the last time. For the next Senate special session, we will invite you to a new building of the Faculty of Chemistry - Alchemium, equipped with a modern conference room for 500 people.
