Lodz University of Technology, as one of the leading technical universities in the Poland, identifies and implements best internal practices within the "Building Excellence at TUL" project. The results of the project have just been announced and the faculties from which the awarded practices originate have been awarded grants by the Rector of TUL.

As part of the project, the faculties submitted over thirty placements, in three thematic areas: science, education and organisation. The Vice-Rectors for Science, Education and Development made their selections. The applications selected by them were awarded by the Rector of TUL with grants of PLN 5,000 for the faculties. A publication was also produced to present the best practices to be implemented in other units of TUL.

The publication presenting exemplary good practices is based on vast practical knowledge and experience of the employees of the faculties of our university, and the transfer of examples of solutions and activities between the units may result in their diffusion within TUL

- said Adam Owczarek, the Head of the University Development Department and of the sub-task 'Building TUL excellence in the exchange of good practices within the university in the areas of science, education, organisation (implemented as part of TUL task budget).

Winners of particular categories

Cooperation between science and business carried out by the Business Council of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Scientific and Economic Council of the Faculty the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering have been indicated as good practice, important from the point of view of the conducted scientific work.

The initiative awarded in the field of education is the "Innovation" project undertaken by the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering in which groups of several best students of the Faculty carry out project work on topics submitted by companies. The Faculty of Chemical Engineering, in turn, by engaging particularly gifted school students in research projects, acquires talented students, whom it provides with individual mentors, supporting their scientific development.

An exemplary practice in the field of organisation is the student service management support system introduced at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It supports efficient handling of matters by dean's office employees, and releases students from obligation of waiting in long queues. The Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering was also awarded for the idea to allocate a special budget, the use of which is decided by the students in a vote. The money was used to create a public kitchenette at the Faculty.

The aim of the "Building Excellence at TUL" project was to prepare a publication which collectively presents good practices and provides an opportunity to implement them on a

university-wide scale. Practices that have worked well and been successfully applied in individual units at TUL were submitted for the competition.
