Encouraged by the success of the woonerf project on Stefanowskiego Street in the previous editions of the Participatory Budget, students of the CIRKULA Students' Research Group have submitted another project to this year's Participatory Budget which will beautify the immediate surroundings of Lodz University of Technology. This time, it is Skorupki Street, which houses, among others, the Rector's Office.

Our concept is to radically change the appearance of this part of Skorupki Street into a safe, green and representative place with calm car traffic, which will emphasize the beauty of the architecture of the Rector' s Office. The concept also provides for parking spaces to be located on green permeable surfaces, which would be unique among downtown streets. These actions would "reclaim" about 22 per cent of the currently concreted street space, which would be in line with global trends in urban and environmental policy

- says Wojciech Dolecki, a student at TUL and initiator of the innovative changes.

A woonerf on Skorupki Street would connect the previously renovated part of this street near the Archcathedral Basilica and the renovated Stefanowskiego Street. Thanks to this, Lodz would gain a long, green communication route in the city centre. The project also envisages planting trees and decorative bushes. The new surroundings will complement Klepacz Park.

Voting will take place from 1 to 15 October (in paper form) and 1 to 29 October (online). We encourage the entire academic community of Lodz University of Technology to vote for the cross-district project LO34 "Przeszyci zielenią 2.0" - woonerf in Skorupki Street.

The description on the Participatory Budget website refers to the original version of the project, which also included the corner plot at the intersection with Wólczańska Street. Due to regulations and property ownership, changes had to be made and the scope had to be limited to Skorupki Street only, explains engineer Dolecki, president of SKN CIRKULA.
