The celebration of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the university on May 24 was an opportunity for the academic community to meet with the authorities of the province and the city numerous as well as many industry representatives, who listened to the speech delivered by the rector of TUL, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, concerning TUL successes and achievements of scientists and students during the passing academic year.

Lodz University of Technology is developing dynamically, as evidenced by the increasingly strong position of the university in the arena of Polish and world higher education. This was reflected in the results of the scientific evaluation for the years 2017-2021. The result is excellent. Out of twelve assessed disciplines, as many as three received the prestigious A+ category. These are chemical sciences, food and nutrition technology and chemical engineering. Six disciplines received a high category A, while three were awarded B+. This is a tremendous success, which was possible thanks to the commitment and effort of many people - researchers, doctoral students and administrative staff. During the meeting, awards and distinctions were presented to students, doctoral students and graduates for outstanding achievements, as well as diploma and doctoral theses. The award of the TUL Alumni Association for the best graduate was given to Emila Brancewicz- Steinmetz, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

For the first time this year, the TUL competition named after prof. Włodzimierz Krysicki for the award of the director of the Institute of Mathematics of Lodz University of Technology for the best bachelor's and master's thesis in applied mathematics was held. The winner of the first prize is Patrycja Rękorajska for the thesis entitled: Methods of customer segmentation. The supervisor of the BA thesis is dr hab. inż. Przemysław Gordinowicz. The award for the best master's thesis went to Agnieszka Augustyniak for the work: Aggregating functions and their applications in actuarial mathematics. The supervisor is dr hab.inż. Marek Kałuszka, TUL professor. The sponsor of both awards is Rossmann. On behalf of the sponsor, the award was presented by the director of the Rossmann HR Department - Ilona Perużyńska-Zych and the director of the Institute of Mathematics, dr hab. Katarzyna Szymańska-Dębowska, TUL professor.

Commemorative statuettes and diplomas were also awarded to the winners of the recently concluded competitions for the prizes of the Rector of Lodz University of Technology. The award for the best citation went to Prof. Andrzej Bartoszewicz of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering.The award for the best scientific publication went to Prof. Grażyna Budryn of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. The award for the best-published doctoral student went to Michal Komar, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Process Engineering and Environmental Protection. The youngest awarded author of a scientific publication was Maria Brzezińska, a student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering , Architecture and Environmental Engineering. The award for the most valuable implementation in 2022 was given to the TUL Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery.

Also on that day, to conclude the birthday, a commemorative plaque was unveiled, prepared by the academic community of Lodz University of Technology for the winner of the title of the European Tree of the Year 2023 - Oak Fabrykant, also known as Jagosz. - In this way we wish to commemorate this unique natural monument which every day impresses us with its majesty, and delights all visitors to Bishop Klepacz Park, located at our university campus. We are very proud of our titled “neighbor”, the beautiful Oak Fabrykant , said Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, who unveiled the plaque.
