Strefa Biznesu (The Business Zone) has grown bigger yet with the addition of another teaching room sponsored by a company cooperating with the Faculty of Organization and Management. The opening of the laboratory, equipped and furnished by Geis PL sp. z o.o., was attended by quite a large number of students who were introduced to the prospects of internships and apprenticeships by Dorota Wójcik, the company's head of HR.

The facilitator of the meeting, doc. Marek Sekieta, whose contacts with the socio-economic environment have brought about many great gains for the Faculty and its students, did not hesitate to express his delight at the fact that this prominent logistics partner is going to become even more salient among the University's community. The seminar preceding the ribbon-cutting was attended by Professor Paweł Strumiłło, Vice-Rector for Development, Dean Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska, and the Vice-Deans, as well as Rafał Augustyniak, Director of the Stryków Branch, and Dorota Wójcik, head of HR at Geis PL.

Geis Group is a German family-owned business that serves customers around the world. Through its subsidiaries, it offers innovative and high-quality transportation and logistics solutions. The company has been present in the Polish market since 2006. Currently, its distribution network in Poland includes 43 branches and three customs agencies. A central sorting facility and a central general cargo HUB with 120 gates and a throughput of 16,000 shipments per hour are located in Stryków, where the company representatives attending the opening of the Geis PL room work.

Dean Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska, alluding to the company's business profile, dubbed the new room a knowledge loading zone. She emphasized the long-standing cooperation with Geis PL, which, as the Dean said, is many-sided. ‘We much value the workshops, job opportunities for our graduates, meetings with the experts. But we also greatly appreciate study visits. Geis is an active member of the LODZistics cluster, presided over by doc. Marek Sekieta. Last week, the company also joined the Business Council operating under the auspices of the Faculty. I am deeply grateful for these collaborations. As for the future, I hope for cooperation in research.’

Mr. Rafał Augustyniak gave a presentation of Geis business operations. He stressed how important for the company are corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, professionalism, focus on the customer, and quality management systems. He also talked about the activities taken by Geis PL within the LODZistics cluster.

The students in attendance learned a great deal of information from Ms. Dorota Wojcik, head of HR. She spoke about the opportunities available to them as they look for a career path. She made a point of emphasizing that the company, despite its global reach, is not corporate in character which she tentatively attributed to it being a family-run business. The company was founded by Hans Geis in 1945 with a fleet of a single old-fashioned truck. His sons, Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis, are today's managing partners of the Geis Group. Their words are quoted on the company's website, 'We put value on combining dynamic drive and farsightedness with concentrated logistics skills. We are modern by tradition.' These words materialize into actions and initiatives addressed to the company's employees and environment across its branches worldwide.

The day starring Geis PL concluded with a workshop for students on the role of IT, including AI and machine learning, in the optimization of logistics processes.
