The main task in the nationwide competition held under the theme 'Without forests, we're all babes in the woods!' was to design an outdoor art installation (a.k.a. O-O-H, or out of home advertising) related to sustainable forestry. An honorable mention in the competition was awarded to Adam Szebesczyk, a student of architecture at Lodz University of Technology. The competition was part of the WWF Poland's campaign for sustainable forest management.

The design was required to meet certain criteria, e.g., use of FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) wood and wood-based materials or other sustainably designed materials, i.e., materials that serve ecological, socio-cultural, and/or economic functions. According to Adam Szebesczyk, the underlying objective of the design is to draw the audience closer to the tree as an individual forest-forming construct, to raise awareness of the value of the tree, and to provide new ways of interacting with it, without permanent spatial interference.

The pavilion, designed on a circular plan, is designed to serve a recreational function, and, relying on the existing local forest-park landscape, to enable close contact with nature. With its simple wooden structure (blended with steel elements) and functional spatial solutions, the two-story pavilion is well-aligned with the concept of 'all we are surrounded by in life is the forest...', while creating an individual object of temporary architecture.

The honorable mention in the "Without forests, we'll be in the woods!" competition is an important achievement for Adam Szebesczyk, a student of architecture, but also an opportunity to highlight the role of architects in raising environmental awareness of the general public.

Initiatives such as the WWF Poland competition show that architecture can be a driving force in promoting sustainable development and expressing concern for our planet. We hope that the project of the pavillion will be carried out so that it could provide an inspiring place to connect with nature and an immersive educational space, thereby enhancing public awareness of environmental issues.
