The acronym FIBRE4YARDS comes from Fibre composite manufacturing technologies FOR the automation and modular construction in shipYARDS, The project is coordinated by the Spanish research center Centre Internacional de Mètodes Numèrics a l'enginyeria in Barcelona.
The task of TUL researchers, headed by Prof. Ireneusz Zbiciński from the Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering, is to determine the environmental effects related to the production of FRP plastic vessels, their operation, maintenance, disassembly or disposal at the end of their life cycle.
- The activities in FIBRE4YARDS are to comply with the concept of Shipyard 4.0, which aims to reduce costs, production time, improve the quality of the products made, as well as better match the product to the needs of customers. All this is to increase the competitiveness of European shipyards - says Prof. Ireneusz Zbiciński.
The main objective of the FIBRE4YARDS project is to develop innovative and automated technologies for the production of small and medium-sized vessels made of FRP - a composite material made of carrier fibres embedded in thermosetting resin. The participation of industry entrepreneurs means that it is envisaged to design and produce demonstration vessels on a real scale to demonstrate the possibilities of innovative technologies.
The consortium received PLN 26 million for the project from the European Union. Out of this amount nearly 900 thousand PLN is allocated to research conducted by Lodz University of Technology.
