Professor’s nomination at TUL

The President of the Republic of Poland granted the title of professor of engineering and technical sciences to Dr. Renata Kotynia from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering (BAIŚ) of TUL.

Professor Renata Kotynia holds the position of the Deputy Dean for Development at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering, and has been the head of the Department of Concrete Structures for two years.

Prof. Renata Kotynia graduated with honours from TUL, Civil Engineering Department in 1992. After graduation she started her design internship, which she successfully concluded in 1994 by receiving construction certificates to perform independent functions. At the same time she accepted a job at the BAIŚ TUL. In 1999 she received a PhD degree in technical sciences, and in 2001 a distinction of the Minister of Regional Development and Construction for her doctoral thesis on "Deformability and load-bearing capacity of bendable reinforced concrete elements reinforced with carbon fibre bands". .

Thanks to the Conference Scholarship of the Polish Science Fund, she participated in the ICACMBS conference in Calgary, which opened doors to the world outside our continent and resulted in an invitation to the International Institute for PRF in Construction (IIFC), where she first became a member of the Council, then Executive Committee and finally Vice-President of IIFC. In 2008, she was awarded the International Prize for Composite Materials Research founded by IIFC for the first time: "The IIFC Distinguished Young Researcher Award, which she received in Zurich. In 2009 she founded the Polish Group of this organization - PG IIFC, under the auspices of the Committee of Civil Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which she still presides over until today.

The academic degree of doctor habilitowany in the field of construction, she obtained in 2012, on the basis of the habilitation monograph "Construction". "Reinforcement of ferroconcrete shear beams with polymer composites". This achievement brought her the highest, in the field of construction, award of the Polish Association of Building and Construction Industry (PZITB im. Stefan Bryła) for outstanding achievements, which she received in 2013.

Professor Kotynia conducts extensive research on real scale elements, into ferroconcrete products reinforced with CFRP composite materials using: passive and active polymeric composites for bending, compression and shearing by means of external adhesive on the concrete surface and by means of gluing the composites into the concrete lagging. Since 2015, she has expanded her research area with non-metallic reinforcement (FRP) in concrete structures, which is gaining more and more interest in the field of construction. She actively participates in Polish organizations and trade associations. Since 2016 she has been the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of PZITB Łódź Branch.

She is an author of numerous publications presented at international conferences, where she has performed as keynote speaker. Bibliographic data: H-index: 8 (Web of Science); 10 (Scopus); Number of citations: 256 She was the manager of 11 research projects, including 3 international ones. She coordinated a multidisciplinary project TULCOEMPA "Structural Health Monitoring in Sustainability of Civil Engineering Infrastructure" funded by the Polish-Swiss Research Program, which resulted in the world's first implementation of bridge reinforcement using stretched CFRP composites using the gradient method and Cost Action TU 1207 "Next Generation Design Guidelines for Composites in Construction". She is a co-author of two patents.

She spends her free time doing sports, with cycling, jogging and mountain hiking and skiing as her greatest passion. Her musical passions range from film music (H. Zimmer, T. Newman) through alternative rock (Depeche Mode) to American rap (Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi). This is also true of literature, she is touched by reading P. Coelho and E. Schmitt and, as counterbalance, she devours crime novels by S. Larsson.
