Professor Dariusz Heim graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering. He holds two degrees: one in civil engineering (1997) and the other in architecture and urban planning (2000).

He was awarded his doctoral degree by Lodz University of Technology in 2003. Prior to that, he had completed a one-year doctoral internship at the Energy Systems Research Unit of the University of Strathclyde. In 2012, he was awarded a postdoctoral degree by the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. Until 2012, the Professor worked at the Department of Building Physics and Building Materials. Currently, he holds a position at the Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering in the Department of Environmental Engineering.

Prof. Dariusz Heim's research is concerned with building physics in its broadest sense, and in particular, with studying and modeling physical processes in buildings. His primary scholarly contributions have been on the issues of coupled processes of solar energy conversion and heat storage in building envelopes.

Currently, he is working on energy efficiency in building structures and the quality of the indoor environment, including in particular: diurnal lighting, thermal comfort, air quality, building airtightness, monitoring external environmental variables, and building materials engineering.

Prof. Dariusz Heim has authored and co-authored 131 research articles, including 53 indexed in the WoS CC database and 81 indexed in the Scopus database, a monograph, 42 chapters in monographs, and 100 papers published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He has successfully supervised 6 doctoral candidates and is currently supervising further 2.
The professor has carried out 14 research projects. He led 3 international research projects. He has also co-authored 6 patent filings.

He sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation. He was the founder and the first Chair (2007-13) of the Polish branch of IBPSA (International Building Performance Simulation Association). Since 2014, he has served as president of the Association of Energy Auditors.
