Rector prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik offered the following remarks,

‘Western Balkans University was established owing to quite exceptional cooperation between the American Hospitals Group and the International Hospital Hygeia. Having its roots in medicine, the institution is involved in research indispensable for the medicine of today. Its offerings include degree programs in biomedical engineering, computer science and artificial intelligence, nano - and biotechnology, and management. Lodz University of Technology, similarly, can boast many groups who conduct research that crosses the boundaries of technology and medicine. It is my belief that we have gained a valuable partner in this part of Europe.’

The scope of cooperation is defined broadly to include exchange of academic staff and students to collaborative research projects and collaborative degree curricula.
