TUL seeks international accreditation

Over 1.2 million zloty will be granted to Lodz University of Technology from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education "International accreditation" grant programme.

For the University's senior administrators, internationalization is a very important element of the strategic plan. During this term of office, the International Cooperation Centre,  a new organizational unit, has been established.

Lodz University of Technology, with 12 grant applications filed, is currently the most active university of technology in seeking international accreditation. The accreditations that we are going to apply for are not alike either. We aim for the prestigious ABET accreditation (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) for four degree programmes taught in English, for the EUR-ACE label , awarded by ENAEE (European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education) in conjunction with KAUT accreditation, for 7 fields of study, and for accreditation under the Institutional Evaluation Programme  of the European University Association (EUA - IAP). The funds granted by the ministry mark the starting point. The process of accreditation may be long but at the end of the road lie benefits for students and  alumni - degrees awarded by Lodz University of Technology will be recognized around the world and the University will become ever so attractive for international students', professor Sławomir Wiak, TUL's  rector, explains.

Lodz University of Technology will apply for ABET accreditation for two first-cycle degree programmes: Information Technology run by the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science run by the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering. ABET accreditation will also be sought for the first-cycle degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Computer Science, and for the second-cycle degree programme in Advanced Mechanical Engineering, all three run by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

TUL has also applied for the EUR-ACE label. The Accreditation Commission of Universities of Technology (KAUT) is authorized to award this European certificate of quality. Organizations accredited by KAUT are, at the same time, awarded the EUR-ACE certificate. Lodz University of Technology has submitted applications for seven fields of study: technical physics, mechanical engineering, information technology, materials engineering, automatic control and robotics, nanotechnology, chemical technology.

The University also wishes to undergo evaluation by the European University Association  under its Institutional Evaluation Programme. It is a comprehensive evaluation programme that involves a number of criteria related to activities of the evaluated organization.

The International Accreditation grant programme is provided within the framework of the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development partially funded with the European Social Fund.
