Professorial titles conferred on TUL scientists

Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland, conferred the title of full professor of sciences, arts and humanities on members of the academia on 27 June. Three academics from Lodz University of Technology were awarded the title: professor Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska, the Faculty of Management and Production Engineering, professor Marcin Bizukojć, the Faculty of Process Engineering and Environmental Protection, and professor Tomasz Czyszanowski, the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics.

prof._agnieszka_bielawska-zakrzewskaAgnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska is a professor of economic sciences. She heads the Department of Management, the Faculty of Management and Production Engineering, TUL, and is the head of the discipline of management and quality sciences. She specializes in the field of strategic management in enterprises, especially in the high-tech sector. She is the author and co-author of over 150 research publications in Polish and English, including articles published in JCR journals. She has participated in and managed numerous research projects, including those financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the National Science Centre. She presented the results of her research during more than 80 scientific conferences in Poland and abroad, often acting as a member of the Scientific Council. She has completed several international internships including those at the University of Perugia in Italy, Universidade Europeia in Portugal, and Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.

Professor Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska actively participates in the process of development of research staff. She has been the supervisor of two doctoral theses (degrees with honors), while 9 others are currently pursuing their doctoral degrees under her scientific guidance. She also served as a reviewer in over 20 doctoral degree proceedings and more than 10 postdoctoral degree proceedings.

The professor has produced more than a dozen expert opinions and studies commissioned by public and business organizations and has participated in many competition and expert groups, including those appointed by the Minister of Science and Higher Education. She is a member of the Presidium of the Committee for Organization and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Board of the Polish Economic Society, Łódź Branch, and a member of major international scientific societies in the field of management sciences, i.e. the Strategic Management Society and the Academy of Management. She has twice won the prize in the competition for the best scientific works organized by the Committee for Organization and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Professor Tomasz Czyszanowski works at the Institute of Physics, the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics, Lodz University of Technology. He is also an alumnus of the University. He was prof._tomasz_czyszanowskiconferred the degree of Doctor of Physics by Lodz University of Technology in 2004, whereas in 2012 he was conferred a postdoctoral degree (doktor habilitowany) by Wroclaw University of Technology. After his graduation, he worked for CFD Research Corporation in Huntsville, USA, where he developed software for simulations of semiconductor lasers. His doctoral thesis dealt with numerical optical models used for numerical analysis of this type of lasers.

In 2005-2007, professor T. Czyszanowski was a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels on Columbus Scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science. In his postdoctoral thesis, he presented a numerical analysis of the influence of photonic crystals on VCSEL lasers. Currently, together with his group of new PhDs and PhD students, he is working on an original concept of monolithic subwavelength gratings and quantum-cascade lasers.

Professor Tomasz Czyszanowski is the author and co-author of over 60 research papers and three chapters in monographs.

Marcin Bizukojć  is a professor of technical sciences and works at the Faculty of Process Engineering and Environmental Protection. The professor's field of research is biochemical engineering, in particular bioreactor processes for the production of secondary metabolites by filamentous fungi (molds). In his postdoctoral thesis (habilitacja) he investigated the biosynthesis of lovastatin and other secondary metabolites, while in recent years he has conducted studies on morphological engineering of filamentous fungi, first such studies in Poland.

He is the author of a monograph "Wprowadzenie do inżynierii morfologicznej mikroorganizmów strzępkowych" (Introduction to Morphological Engineering of Filamentous Microorganisms) Last but not least, the scientist is also interested in dual-species co-cultures of filamentous fungi and Actinomycetes.

Professor Bizukojć graduated from Lodz University of Technology in 1998; his doctoral degree was awarded in 2002 and his postdoctoral degree (habilitacja) in 2010. In 2008, he completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at Hamburg University of Technology. He is the author of 53 IF publications, ten chapters in monographs, and more than 20 other peer-reviewed publications.
