Computer Science students’ tour de force

In the national finals of the Imagine Cup 2016, two teams representing Lodz University of Technology attained the podium whereas another Lodz University of Technology finished in the fourth place. The Unicell team won and therefore, the students of Lodz University of Technology  became the national team. They will represent Poland in the world semi-finals which are scheduled to take place in May. Dr inż. Jarosław Andrzejczak of the Institute of Information Technology, Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics is the team’s mentor and supervisor.

It is worth reminding that Lodz University of Technology was represented by 9 teams in all three categories of the TOP30 of the competition.

The winning Unicell team is comprised of Kamil Kozłowski, Mateusz Miągowski i Jakub Rogalski, students of Lodz University of Technology, and Igor Derbis, a student of the University of Computer Sciences and Skills in Lodz. The Unicell Manager, a project they developed, is a mobile game with educational elements where the player controls a unicellular organism.  The aim of the game is to complete the process of the cell evolution by controlling its internal structures.  Complex stages of this process such as formation of new organelles, breaking food down into molecules, storing these molecules, are presented in an accessible and interesting form, which bespeaks its strong educational merit. The Unicell Manager contains many solutions which make each game different from the previous one. Various systems of objectives and rewards, collector’s cards which facilitate actions.
