Science in the Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design

The latest major research projects

BIOGRATEX was a leading research project as a result of which biodegradable fibrous materials for applications in medicine, agriculture, hygiene supplies industry, and filtration were developed. 16 prototypes of textile products, e.g. filtration half-masks, industrial dust collection filters, agricultural ropes and agrotextiles, wound dressing products, products used in the production of implants, and hygiene and sanitary products were developed.

The Faculty's scientists have addressed the need for public health and human life protection by developing smart fabrics. This was the focus of the research project called 'Modelling selected protective and biophysical properties of protective clothing made of aluminized basalt fabrics with a thermal manikin and a 3D scanner'. A team of researchers developed a prototype of smart protective clothing with a system of textronic sensors for early detection of thermal shock risk that e.g. foundry workers might be exposed to. The fabrics that were used in the project allowed the scientists to achieve better protection against radiation heat.

The Faculty's academic staff are on interdisciplinary research teams organized by leading scientific institutions in Poland. Results of their scientific work are put to use in medicine, one example of which has been the development of novel external compression products to facilitate healing. The developed knitted fabrics will have broader applications in compression therapy, e.g. post-operative scar treatment and/or lymphedema treatment.
