Science in the Faculty of Management and Production Engineering

The latest major research projects

The Faculty's academic staff conduct interdisciplinary research successfully competing in external grant competitions. The following projects completed with the financial support of the National Center for Research and Development (NCBiR) provide an example of this type of activity: 'Organizational structure as an instrument of knowledge management in high tech enterprises'. The aim was to explore theoretically and empirically how organizational structure determines the process of knowledge management in the organization. The influence of structural factors on sub-processes and on building awareness of knowledge management was studied. As a result, attributes that facilitate and those that obstruct knowledge management were identified, and organizational solutions were proposed to support knowledge managers in high tech enterprises.

Another important project titled 'Nostalgia in brand management'. The project aimed to determine the importance and the possibility of harnessing nostalgia for purposes of brand management. Research involved identification and assessment of consumer attitudes towards nostalgic brands depending on demographic and geographic characteristics of consumers.

Research in the fields of papermaking and printing conducted at the Faculty is unparalleled in the country. The Faculty cooperated with the Paper and Cardboard Factory Beskidy during the 'Energy efficient system of flexible preparation of pulp made from raw materials of varying fiberizability' project.

The Faculty is focused on practical application of the results of science and research works and to this end, it has been involved in a whole range of implementation projects in the area of management and production engineering. In the years 2013-2016, over 150 products developed in the course of research projects were applied in practice, whereas nearly 50 expert opinions and scientific analysis commissioned by external organizations were performed.

The Faculty runs accredited noise research and ergonomics laboratories. It is also worth drawing attention to the fact that the research concerned with product logistic efficiency has been included in the list of the National Smart Specializations.
Embedded in the organizational structure of the Faculty is the Institute of Papermaking and Printing equipped with advanced research apparatus which allows its researchers to conduct innovative research projects in the area of cellulose technologies, paper materials and packaging, machines for their manufacturing as well as processes of production and processing related to these types of materials. Owing to their knowledge and experience, technologies developed at the Institute are implemented in industry.

One of major successes of the Institute has been the construction of a unique line for waste paper conversion at the Wadowice paper factory. It is planned that another five research laboratories will be set up at the faculty in the fields of production engineering and management including marketing and focus research, manufacturing process design, supply chain management, product and product packaging design, business process modelling.
