At its first online meeting (29.01), the Council of Lodz University of Technology deliberated in a partially altered composition. As of January 1, 2021, it is chaired by dr inż. Mirosław Sopek - MakoLab Vice President for Technology, a graduate of Lodz University of Technology.

The University Council consists of six members. Three of them come from outside of the university. Apart from the new chairman, other members are: dr inż. Tomasz Krysiński - the Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Development at Airbus Helicopters and Dariusz Szewczyk, the President of Radio Lodz.

During the first meeting, Mirosław Sopek proposed several new initiatives.

I propose to strengthen the presence of the Council of Lodz University of Technology in the media, including social media. Also, I'm thinking about establishing an independent business incubator for start-ups at Lodz University of Technology, certainly after a thorough analysis of the topic. I would also like to see the creation of an Interdepartmental Centre for Artificial Intelligence at Lodz University of Technology

- said the new chairman after the meeting.

The other three members are employees of Lodz University of Technology: Professor Andrzej Bartoszewicz, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Head of the Institute of Automatic Control; Professor Wojciech Wolf, Deputy Head of the Institute of General and Ecological Chemistry; Dr. Jacek Sawicki, assoc. professor Deputy Head of the Institute of Materials Engineering; and Julia Chojnacka, President of the Student Government at Lodz University of Technology

According to the Act, the tasks of the Council include, among others: providing opinions on the draft statute, the draft strategy of the university, monitoring the financial management of the university as well as its general management, proposing candidates for the Rector - after an opinion of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology.
