Full professorship conferred on two scientists from Lodz University of Technology

Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland, on May 27th, conferred the tile of full professor on 60 academic teachers, scientists, and arts scholars, among them two scientists of the Division of Dynamics, Lodz University of Technology: professor Barbara Błażejczyk-Okolewska and professor Przemysław Perlikowski.

Profesor Przemysław Perlikowski z PŁProfessor Przemysław Perlikowski is graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (2005). Since the beginning of his academic career, he has been affiliated with the Division of Dynamics. Two  years after his graduation, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis, whereas four years later (2011), he was awarded the degree of doktor habilitowany .In 2016, he became a member of the Polish Young Academy of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The title of full professor was conferred on him at the age of 39.

The main research interests of professor Perlikowski are in the area of nonlinear dynamics. Among his significant achievements are: a hybrid dynamical model of a bell, identification of the origin of randomness in mechanical systems, a novel design of tuned mass dampers and absorbers. Further interests include synchronization in networks of nonlinear oscillator (mechanical, electrical, neurobiological and optoelectronic systems). He is an author of 70 research articles published in JCR journals and a co-author of a research monograph; he has an h- index of 19, while his papers have 957 citations, excluding self-citations.

Professor Perlikowski collaborates with many leading research institutions in Poland, Great Britain, Germany, Equador, and Russia. He has completed many study visits and post-doctoral research training including the two at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the National University of Singapore.

The professor has received, among others, Rector Award for the highest number of citations (2019), Award of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2018), scholarship for young outstanding scientists (2012-2015), START scholarship funded by the Foundation for Polish Science (2011, 2012), award of the Praesidium of the Polish Academy of Science Chapter in Łódź and the Conference of the Rectors of Łódź Public Higher Education Institutions (2010).

Since 2011, professor Perlikowski has been a member of an interdisciplinary team appointed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for the evaluation of Diamentowy Grant Iuventus Plus grant applications. He is a member of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Barbara Błażejczyk-Okolewska z Prezydentem RP Andrzejem DudąProfessor  Barbara Błażejczyk-Okolewska  is an alumna of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (graduated in 1992). Upon her graduation, she started working in the Division of Dynamics. In 1995, she defended her doctoral thesis with distinction, whereas in 2005, she was awarded the degree of doktor habilitowany. She was appointed professor of Lodz University of Technology in 2014. In 1994-1995 she completed a post-doctoral research training at the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Professor Błażejczyk-Okolewska’s research interests concentrate around analytical and numerical description of nonlinear phenomena in impact oscillator systems. Of special interest to her are intermittency and synchronization as well as stability of vibro-impact systems. The Professor has written extensively on these topics and her achievement includes monographs, monograph chapters, research papers in scientific journals, and many papers peer-reviewed conference proceedings.

Professor Błażejczyk-Okolewska has managed three research grants (KBN, MNiSW, NCN). She has collaborated with research institutions in the Czech Republic and in Great Britain. She has written more than six hundred scientific opinions specialized reviews concerning national and international research reports. She is a member of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and of the Expert Corps of the National Science Centre. She served three terms in an auxiliary NCN Panel in Physical Sciences and Engineering. Her scientific achievements have been recognized with the award of a number of distinctions and prestigious awards.
