The 34-km swim in the Pacific Ocean took the TUL's student 12 hours 7 minutes and 32 seconds. She is the first Polish woman to have swam across the Catalina Channel, which is one of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming challenges sometimes called the English Channel of America.
Aleksandra Bednarek took this enormous challenge with her friend from Szczecin - Hania Bakuniak. The project was called the Polish Expedition of the Century - Polska Przeprawa Stulecia and supported a charitable cause.
- I thought it was really great to be nominated for the award. Winning it was a nice finishing touch to end the 2017/2018 season with and an inspiration for future ventures. - Ola Bednarek was happy to post on Facebook.
Ola Bednarek studies biomedical engineering in the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Automatic Control, TUL. She is in her second year. Her non-academic passion is open water swimming, which has not been given much public or media attention in Poland so far.
