Lodz University of Technology is a well-established higher education institution with an evolved structure. The Faculty has made a great contribution to the development of technical education in Poland and today is one the best faculties of mechanical engineering in Poland. The Faculty takes pride in its graduates, most of whom work creatively as engineers in Poland and abroad. The Faculty prides itself on its active inventiveness and cooperation with industry.
The Faculty staff consists of over 220 academics, including 56 professors and associate professors. It is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the areas of Mechanical Engineering, Theoretical Mechanics and Materials Engineering. The Faculty offers studies in the fields of Automatic Control and Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Management and Production Engineering, Materials Engineering, Power Engineering, Transport. Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering

The largest of TUL’s faculties, it educates engineers indispensable in almost every area of modern technology. There is no field that would do without electrical machines and installations, electronic control and measurement, automatic regulation systems, telecommunication systems or computers with appropriate software.
The Faculty staff consists of 260 academics, including 53 professors and associate professors. It is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the areas of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Automatic Control and Robotics as well as doctoral degrees in Computer Science. The Faculty is a recognized research centre well-known of its outstanding scientific and educational achievements. Its laboratories are equipped with cutting edge research apparatus. Its researcher and teaching staff includes over 130 academics, with 43 professors and associate professors. It is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the areas of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The Faculty offers studies in the fields of Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Protection, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology and also, unique in Poland, intercollegiate degree program Chemistry of Building Materials. The programs offered at the Faculty are interdisciplinary. They seamlessly integrate chemistry with technical and engineering content. Its graduates find employment in various industries, in public administration agencies, education and in research and development units in Poland and abroad.

Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences

The Faculty is unique among faculties of all technical universities. It harmoniously integrates three areas of knowledge: biological sciences, chemical sciences and engineering with the aim of improving technological processes in food and biotechnology industry and environmental protection. Its academic staff consists of over 130 academics, including 27 professors and associate professors. It is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the areas of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology. The faculty offers study programs in the fields of Biotechnology, Environmental Protection, Food Technology and Human Nutrition. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering

The Faculty holds the second place in a ranking of civil engineering faculties of public technical universities. Currently, over 3000 students are enrolled on programs offered by the Faculty. Students study building and engineering structures design, town planning and architectural design. They also explore issues of revitalisation of buildings and town structures. Its graduates are well-prepared to manage and supervise civil engineering processes and would be an asset for any real estate agencies, consulting companies, architectural design offices. They are also ready to work at regional development plans. The staff of the faculty consists of over 180 academics, including 31 professors and associate professors and 88 postdoctoral research and teaching staff. The Faculty is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the area of Civil Engineering as well as doctoral degrees in the areas of Architecture and Urban Planning as well as Environmental Engineering. The Faculty employs specialists in various areas of science and its scientific research, although focused on practical application, has strong theoretical background. The students of the Faculty gain advanced knowledge in the area of applied mathematics, physics and computer science application in technology, medicine and economy as well as practical skills of IT application in management and industry. The Faculty offers interdisciplinary study programmes, where management courses are integrated with technical ones. The graduates of the faculty have sufficient knowledge and skills to solve problems of enterprise management, to communicate efficiently with administrative staff and to cooperate successfully with engineering personnel in team projects. The research and teaching staff of the Faculty consists of 100 academics, including 16 professors and associate professors. The staff also includes specialists with expertise in banking, brokerage and enterprises. It is entitled to award doctoral degrees in the area of Management Studies. It offers studies in the fields of European Studies, Management, Management and Production Engineering as well as Occupational Safety Engineering. The Faculty also offers Business and Technology, Management studies taught entirely in English and Gestion et technologie taught entirely in French in the International Faculty of Engineering.

The Faculty offers degree courses in the field of environmentally safe and economical methods of materials and energy processing, environmental remediation, and industrial and occupational safety. As a strong scientific research centre the Faculty is in the topmost category of a governmental benchmarking classification. Many significant achievements, both educational and scientific, have been accomplished by the Faculty’s staff and students. The faculty is entitled to award doctoral degrees and postdoctoral scientific qualifications in the areas of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. It runs studies in the fields of Chemical and Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety Engineering, Occupational Health Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. The interdisciplinary programs enable their graduates to cooperate with public administration agencies as well as to solve problems in the area of industrial processes, environmental management and industrial safety. Commodity Science College

TUL’s Commodity Science College is an interfaculty unit established owing to the efforts of four of the University’s faculties: the Faculty of Organization and Management, the Faculty of Material Technology and Textile Design, the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Science. The four-year, first cycle degree program in Commodity Science is interdisciplinary in nature and ends with the award of the qualification of inżynier. Obligatory industry placement programs constitute the final semester of the program.
Institute of Papermaking and Printing

The institute carries out research and educates specialists in papermaking, printing, and machine building for paper production, processing and printing. The staff of the institute consists of 21 academics, including 7 professors and associate professors. Since the academic year of 2008/2009, it has been independently providing degree programs in Papermaking and Printing Technology.
International Faculty of Engineering

International Faculty of Engineering was established in 1992 thanks to international cooperation of the Lodz University of Technology with foreign universities. It is the first higher education institution in Poland to offer degree courses taught in English, and the first in the entire Eastern and Central Europe to offer them in French. Currently, there are 1200 students at IFE. Each one of them will complete at least one semester of their studies abroad, whereas IFE will welcome about 250 foreign students, as it does each year, who will complete one or two semesters of their program here. Study programmes (10 in English and 1 in French) are delivered in cooperation with TUL’s faculties. The main objective of the International Faculty of Engineering is to educate engineers who can proficiently use English and French. Apart from professional knowledge and competences, IFE’s graduates are able to work independently but also as part of a team, analyse and synthesise information, easily adapt to new environments, and communicate effectively. IFE employs outstanding scholars. In fact, a significant number of them come from renowned universities in Europe and other parts of the world.

Library of Technical University of Lodz

This state-of-the-art centre of information on science and technology is located in a renovated factory building that formerly belonged to the Schweikert family and which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. The Library collects scientific literature in the fields represented at the university and in related disciplines as well as leading publications of general literature. Its collection of printed resources (258 thousand books and 135 volumes of journals) are located in a free-access zone, whereas its digital resources are accessible via the Internet. The Library also provides access to national and international databases and online services. Part of its collection of printed resources has been digitalized and can be accessed through the Digital Library eBiPol, which, in turn, is available under Lodz Regional Digital Library CYBRA. The Main Library also houses WIKAMP Center (Virtual Camps of the Lodz University of Technology) as well as an art gallery Biblio-Art. The Library of TUL is made up of the Main Library and branch libraries: Biotechnology and Food Science, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Chemistry, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Centre implements advanced information technology solutions into the university’s day-to-day operations. The Computer Centre manages LODMAN Municipal Computer Network which provides other universities and research institutes with access to global academic computer networks and to the services they provide. CC is a back-up control centre of the PIONIER national academic network. CC provides videoconference services and broadcasts live on the Internet, keeps a film chronicle of the University and runs its own HD film production studio (Multimedia Centre). CC provides infrastructure for an integrated IT system for the ten biggest libraries in Lodz (ŁASB).

The Centre was established in 2004. Its staff consists of 80 academics who teach mathematics and physics to the students of TUL’s faculties and the International Faculty of Engineering. The Centre also offers preparatory courses in mathematics and physics for candidates for studies at TUL. It supervises and evaluates the contents of the www.mat-fiz.p.lodz.pl website, where sets of problems and exercises in maths and physics are made available to candidates for technical studies. These new forms, tools and methods of distance learning have been designed to reduce variability in candidates’ competences in these fields. The Centre cooperates with secondary schools in the region.

The place where TUL’s students learn foreign languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Chinese). Classes are run on varied levels of advancement and include technical language and terminology. They are taught with the support of the latest tools and methods in laboratories equipped with multimedia. Since 2005, the Centre has operated in a beautifully revitalised, post-factory building, the interior of which has been adapted to the needs of modern education and communication in foreign languages. The Centre offers commercial courses – preparatory courses for national and international examinations (TELC, high school finals, FCE, CAE, LCCI, ZD, DELF etc.)

Students of all faculties who completed the first semester of their studies can practice a wide variety of sports at the Sports Centre. Its facilities include two sports halls for team games, halls for martial arts and for aerobics, and two body building gyms. In 2010, a multifunctional sports ground was opened to serve students. It has become a training centre for Academic Sport Association of TUL. Apart from general physical education classes, swimming, aerobics, tennis, basketball and volleyball, football, judo, stretching, callanetics are also available. The Centre also offers corrective exercises.
