Student organizations and Student Clubs

Although a dominating one, studying is only one of the aspects of student life. It also involves cultural events and club life, tourism, university choir, radio, radio journalism, sport and participation in numerous student organisations.

Student Tourist Club PŁazik organises hikes, canoeing trips, water-skiing tournaments, summer camps, and skiing-snowboard camps for the tourism lovers. In cooperation with ŻAK radio the club holds the Annual Festival of Tourist Songs YAPA.

Students craving for adventure with journalism meet at the ŻAK radio, created mainly by students and for students.

Academic Choir of the Technical University of Lodz has a long history. The choir performs varied repertoire, from church music to popular songs, and it prides itself on numerous prestigious awards. Since 2005 students with music talents can perform in the Academic Orchestra.

The university also hosts a number of student organisations and associations through the agency of which TUL students have the possibility to do practical placements and training in various parts of the world:

  • Board of European Students of Technology - BEST
  • International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience - IAESTE
  • Erasmus Student Network - European Youth Exchange - ESN -EYE
  • European Student Association (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de 1'Europe) - AEGEE
  • International Association of Economy and Commerce Students (Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales) - AIESEC

Students willing to try their hand at organisational activities are welcome at the Student Government. The organisation deals with all vital student problems, from the allocation of places in dormitories, through all social issues to organisation of cultural and sport life.

Students also participate in sessions of Faculty Boards and of the Senate, which are the most important boards of the university.

Many years ago the Polish Students Association - ZSP emerged at TUL. ZSP runs private lessons, offers lodgings agency, preparatory courses for final secondary education exams and entrance exams to universities, as well as compensatory courses for first year students.

Students can let their energy doing sports in any of the several sport sections of the Academic Sport Association of TUL. At their disposal they have body building gyms, sports halls and fields.

At all faculties of the university students wishing to develop their interests can join various scientific clubs, the places where students of broad interests can develop their expertise and share it with other enthusiasts of a given scientific field. Most often the future doctoral students and in perspective the future academics of the university come from among the circles members. They participate in seminars, camps, student placements, do their own research, win competitions, and their papers are awarded by the best companies in particular trades.

Students can spend their free time in student clubs, places that bring the taste to the student life. The clubs of TUL are located on campus at Aleja Politechniki. At present there are six of them. The oldest and the most popular one is Futurysta, the animator of the student culture. Its activities include promoting theatre, co-organisation of Juwenalia, cooperation with the Student Government in  helping the children from orphanages and support for several sections of the Academic Sport Association of TUL.
